Yuma Excessive cancels boys soccer season

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma High School won’t have a boys soccer season this year.

The Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) announced the decision on Saturday morning. It is said the decision was not based on coronavirus infections or exposures among team members.

A number of virus-related factors contributed to the cancellation, including a low turnout from athletes, according to YUHSD.

The announcement follows the first cancellation of the winter sports season by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Juan Lerma, the head football coach at Yuma High, looks forward to resuming the football program in the 2021-2022 season.
